Hidden Monsters
Hidden Monsters begins like a secret adventure story. Elliot and Elana are heading toward a dangerous abandoned park where monsters are hiding.
The cast includes Elliot, Elana, Emily, Liz, Nani, Snailie, Dogo, and the memory of Elizabeth and Emily. Some characters are alive, some are only remembered, and everyone belongs to the mystery.
This page works like a movie credit page. It names the author, illustrator, donators, artists, and even the canceled artists.
The Bio Science Lab is huge and busy. It is filled with scientists, signs, rooms, pets, warning marks, and secret work about monsters.
The author warns that this book has no lesson. Hoot Nightwing adds, what fun.
The chapter list begins with the foreword, flashbacks at the lab, mom's terrible request, the abandoned park, the fire breathing monster, the poison gas monster, a broken leg, the water monster, Dogo getting eaten, cold water lake, Dogo returns, and smart pets.
The later chapters promise trouble: too clever, inkwell isles, a sample skydive, an extra sample from the terrifying monster, poor pets, to the helicopter, the blaster rifle, quick sand, the electro boat, mom's laboratory again, the discovery, nine years later, and acknowledgements.
My name is Elliot Breondana, and I have a brother named Elana. I am eight and my brother is nine. We live in California, and my mom works at Bio Science Lab studying monsters. Mom says Dad was killed by a monster after he went to an abandoned park on an unknown island in the Caribbean. Dad told Mom to send us there for samples, so now Mom has to study them instead. So we're off.
School is canceled for three years, but Elliot still thinks about Dad. Dad died when Elliot was two and Elana was three. At Bio Science Lab, Mom gives Elliot a task. Elliot and Elana name their pets Catae and Dogo before the mission begins.
Elliot flashes back to spies putting grenades in their super-duper luxurious house. Elliot screams and tells everyone to run. Ten seconds later the grenade explodes, and pieces fly everywhere. Mom cries, Dad faints, Dogo whines, and Elliot sheds tears but stays still.
The next day, Mom brings Elliot and Elana into the monster room. Their job is to go to the abandoned park and get blood samples from real live monsters. Mom gives them sample bottles and a gun to launch the bottles at monsters. Elliot faints from the shock, and Elana wakes Elliot with a cup of water.
Elliot accidentally kicks Elana in the face and splashes water everywhere. Mom gets angry and grounds them for a day with math quiz workbooks from the toy shop, unless they want to skip food and water and toys.
Mom kicks the kids into a helicopter with the sample kit. They are tied to ropes and cannot move, but Mom also puts the pets in the helicopter. Elliot tells Dogo to chew the ropes so they can be free. After about six hours they make it to the eerie, dirty abandoned park.
At the park, Elliot steps on muddy ground and chokes because the rope is still connected. Elana grabs the sample kit, and they search for hours until they find the fire-breathing monster. Elliot helps Elana attach the sample to the gun. Elana says not to worry.
The adventure continues with another enormous hidden monster. Elliot, Elana, the pets, and their gear face a creature much bigger than they expected.
